RIS The objective of the study is to examine the methodological challenges that the concept of resilience presents to Axel Honneth’s social theory as a representative of contemporary Critical Theory. The study concentrates on the concept of “immanent transcendence” as a pivotal methodological framework and examines its connections to resilience theory. In this context, initially based on social-ecological analyses, resilience becomes a more critical tool for understanding and managing (coping with) the uncertainties and complexities that characterize our era of polycrisis. The study posits that the cognitive turn associated with resilience theory can enrich the methodology of Critical Theory (in the formulation of Axel Honneth’s social theory), allowing for a deeper reflection on the limitations of our knowledge and the inevitability of uncertainty.
